The Mondrian collection is one of the most iconic historical fashion moments brought forth by designer, Yves Saint Laurent. This collection gave way to a new and constantly reemerging trend of color-blocked looks. Following this color-blocking trend, this mid-1960s YSL felt hat draws inspiration from the Mondrian, yet replaces the original primary colors with bolder more vibrant shades of hot pink, sky blue, and moss green balanced by panels of black. Presumably from his line of helmet hats, this hat has a prominently domed crown with a narrow brim made of quilted leather. An accent of black grosgrain ribbon runs along the edge. A version of this hat recently sold at auction for £6,500. A rare, collectors’ piece, this hat adds an element of fun and a vintage quirkiness to a modern look.
Measurements:
Circumference: 23 inches
The interior is lined with a grosgrain ribbon sweatband and features combs at either side of the hat. In very good condition, there is an area of minimal fading of the green portion of the felt. High-quality vintage pieces like this are yours to live in and love while increasing in value every year. It’s never too soon to start collecting them, as an investment in your wardrobe—and in yourself.
