Vintage Design
Georges Frydman belongs to French modernist designers who will change the relationship with furniture in the 1950s. Very marked by the functionalist principles of the beginning of the 20th century (Bauhaus, Chicago school …) and admirer of the ideas of Charles Edouard Jeanneret dit Le Corbusier, Frydman will base the “functional housing equipment” which will later become the company “EFA”. The furniture imagined and made by Georges Frydman are very often drawn by metal structures, with which exotic woods, colored panels and glass plates mix. The EFA coffee table is a beautiful illustration of Georges Frydman’s drawing: geometric lines that structure space, transparencies and a game of contrast between the flat black or transparent glass, dialoguing with teak.
The coffee table is old and dates from the 1950s. It consists of a square section metal frame, black lacquered, a transparent glass top and a double glass and teak top. It was designed and produced by Georges Frydman, the founder of EFA. It is in very good condition, perfectly functional. A chip on an edge of the transparent glass top should be noted and is visible in the photo. Its design is typical of the French midcentury modernist movement.
